Cochlear Implant Club and Advisory Association

"No-one can explain better what it is like to have a cochlear implant
than a person who uses one"
CICADA exists to make this happen.

Welcome.

We welcome Cochlear Implantees; Prospective Implantees; Parents of Child Implantees (and their children!); Partners, Family and Friends; Professionals and others interested in the deaf and hearing impaired.

Membership Form
The CICADA membership form can be downloaded from here Download Now Click Save to save to your PC, then simply print it out and fill it in with your details then return to CICADA by mail along with the membership fee.

The once-only nature of the nominal membership fee of $10 saves considerable annual administrative effort by the secretary, treasurer and public officer, and associated costs.  A book of raffle tickets is mailed annually to members; most are sold. Other members prefer a donation, note that donations over $2 used for CICADA's core purposes ofadvice and educationare tax deductible. The financial return more than compensates for the non-recurring membership fee.

Other CICADA Groups and affiliated associations in other states have their own procedures and should be contacted initially via the CICADA Secretary secretary@cicada.org.au People can be members of both CICADA Australia Inc and a local group if they wish.

Members can participate in all CICADA activities.  They receive the CICADA National Newsletter and, where applicable, State newsletters such as Buzz (NSW). Members may receive discounts or other offers from commercial organizations such as battery suppliers.

Statistics
There are some 3000 Cochlear Implantees in Australia and New Zealand, 60% adults and 40% children.  CICADA Australia Inc. has over 500 NSW members.  Membership increased by 20% in 2005 and by a further 12.5% in 2006.  SCIC statistics show many past implantees in the 0-10 and 10-20 age groups who will move into the 20-40 age range in the future.  SCIC also expects the number of cochlear operations to remain at least steady overall, with growth in the plus 50s, and in older children and teenagers within the deaf (signing) community.  All these factors should contribute to future membership growth in CICADA.

Volunteering
CICADA and SCIC maintain a register of members and others who are willing to assist with administration (copying, folding, addressing envelopes, mail-outs), or with catering and other tasks at function days – a few hours now and then would be appreciated. If you are interested in volunteering contact the CICADA Secretary secretary@cicada.org.au
