Audiologist with Sound Processor

Jan 2018 Kens5TV

A San Antonio man is utilising a new ear sound processor that's not only helping him hear clearly, but it's helping him continue to help others. Cochlear Hearing Center audiologist Jerome Evans received cochlear implants in March. Specifically, the Kanso South Processor.  "For the Kanso, we have an option for people who don't want anything on their ears, an option for people who may have thicker glasses. Or older people who have oxygen masks. You have enough stuff on your ears," Evans said.

As an audiologist, Evans said it's imperative to clearly understand his patients to help them in their hearing loss journey. Evans has had hearing impairments since he was three years old. When he was in graduate school, it got worse. "It's kind of nice because everything they share, I can say: Your feelings and your thoughts are rational. They make sense. It's okay to be mad, it's okay to be frustrated," Evans said.  "We basically hear like robots and so if you're normal hearing, no offence or anything, but you'll never know how to program us. It takes somebody like him knowing where the right decibels and right pitches are supposed to be," patient Kelsey Brown said.
