I have had a CI since Nov 2012 and will be going overseas (Worldwide) for the first time with a CI. Covering my hearing aids was easy but covering my speech processor and associated equipment has not been easy as the travel insurance company is refusing to cover a high cost of the speech processor. Can anyone tell me what your experience with insuring your CI under a travel insurance policy?

I have already contacted my home content insurance and only covers Australia and New Zealand.

Any suggestion would be great. Thanks.

You should check in the first instance if the magnet is the correct strength. A magnet which is too strong can cause your head to ache. There are some reports of headaches mainly related to born-deaf clients whose hearing part of the brain was not stimulated from birth. Your audiologist may be able to switch off some individual electrodes to try to determine if one or other of them is causing pain. Even normal hearing people get headaches which are not always explained. A chiropractor or osteopath can sometimes help with an alternative solution if the usual medical practitioners cannot identify a problem.

I had a Cochlear implant in May 2012, R ear only, switch on was in June, advised it will take 2-3 years to "hear" clearly. In January 2013 I started getting severe headaches R side of forehead, had to stop wearing attachment, headaches different times during day, not glasses - checked, had a CT scan of brain - all clear, GP recommended I see Cochlear Surgeon - April. Has there been any previous cases where headcahes have resulted from implant? Could it be caused by L ear having to compensate for R ear, I could hear a bit before operation from R ear, now hear nothing when not wearing aid.
