A beginner's guide to online technologies
If Facebook fills you with fear, Twitter sounds like twaddle and Flickr seems as though it is spelt incorrectly, this is the course for you!
Jump online, have a go and learn a bit about 2.0 with this free online course presented by the State Library of Queensland, supported by OPAL funding.
Looking @2.0 is designed to help you navigate through the world of online technologies. Keep up with your kids, find new resources and learn how to stay safe online.
The course is broken down into eight modules, each focusing on a theme. Every two weeks a new module will become available and you are able to complete those that interest you.
Each module will provide you with some background information, activities to get you thinking, a short quiz to test your understanding and a set of links and resources for you to explore more.
Web 2.0 - What is it?
You have probably already used Web 2.0 without realising it. The term 'Web 2.0' is a phrase first coined in 1999 by web designer Nicci DiNucci and is commonly associated with web applications that allow sharing or collaboration among users.
Any time you are online adding a comment, writing a review, giving a star rating, creating a profile or contributing your thoughts or content, you are using Web 2.0. As explained in Wikipedia: "A Web 2.0 site allows its users to interact with other users or to change website content, in contrast to non-interactive websites where users are limited to the passive viewing of information that is provided to them.
Webcasts can be viewed in the relevant module within the course. Login or register to access.
